In the Middle Ages herbs, flowers and perfumes were integral to daily life, intertwined with medicine and magic. Dr. Giovanni Spani, Professor of Italian and Medieval Studies in the Department of World Literatures, Languages and Cultures at the College of the Holy Cross, will take you on a journey of exploration into medieval healing techniques for the cure of multiple diseases and the ways in which herbal preparations for anesthesia, and wine as antiseptic, factored into various surgical interventions.
Doors open at 6 p.m.
